At Howard’s seminar last year, we all took away the most amazing adaptation to the ‘roll down’, which involved rolling down at an oblique angle rather than through the centre as usual. So, we looked at our right foot and rolled down and up very gently and careful towards that and then repeated the process to the left hand side. It just seems to accentuate the effect that you get when rolling down in the traditional way.
Adaptations like these are a key part of Howard’s open and knowledgeable approach to yoga which has enabled him to reach out beyond its traditional confines to address some of the fundamental concerns of our time, including stress and the way in which we age.
One of the most ground-breaking yoga teachers in the UK, with sales in excess of 3.5 million yoga DVDs in collaborations with well known brands such as Kellogg’s Special K, GMTV, Boots and WH Smith.
He also co-authored the best selling book “Pilates and Yoga” and has written for a number of leading magazines.
Recently and, as aways, moving with the times, he produced a best selling app for the iPhone on stress called the “dStress Pill”. (Note from Jo – I regularly go to bed with Howard, sit him on my pillow and allow his dulcet tones to help me move away from any retained stresses and drift into sleep. There is a 5 minute destress as well as a 10 minute version. Highly recommended for £1.79 on the iPhone)
Howard has also hosted a series of yoga shows for television called “Simply Yoga with Howard Napper” (ITV2).
